Fat beams have been my strings for almost 10 years on my jazz bass. Recently I’ve been playing a 5 string Ibanez and the fat beams B string is just too long for it... it’s the feel and the punchy mids that I really like about the fat beams... can anyone recommend a string that I could try out with similar playability? I’m currently using D’addario xl which I’ve always liked but I still yearn for something closer to the fat beams. I’ve already tried regular slinky’s and elixir nanos...
    Thanks!

Try the Marcus Miller Dunlop strings.

Would second this. Would also suggest SIT Rock Bright Steels if you don't mind hexcore tension.

  4. I'm a big fan of Fat Beams and Marcus Miller Dunlop Super Brights. I'd say the Fat Beams are more refined in their tone and feel. The MM DSBs are rougher on the fingers but provide a nice, grindy mid-bump. For a Fat Beams 'lite', I'd consider DR Lo-Riders. FYI, the MM DSBs are my favourite string for the Rick and my Yamaha 5 string.
