looking to possibly build a fEARful 15+6

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by BonesawMcgraw13, Feb 5, 2016.

  1. I just discovered these cabinets a few weeks ago and they seem pretty awesome. I had already been sort of thinking about building one. I got a scored a free 15" speaker today from work which is pretty awesome so now I definitely want to make one. I picked up a eminence kilomax 15 speaker which seems pretty awesome after looking it up. I notices on the plans that it recommends a eminence 3015Lf for the build. I was wondering if it would be worth using the kilomax speaker instead. Upon further research they seem similar but have minor differences. The kilomax is a bit more expensive. Would it be worth using this speaker for this build or should I chub the cash to get the one recommended 3015LF?

The plans don't "recommend" the 3015LF.
The cabinet is designed around the 3015LF, therefore it's "required".

The fEARful was designed specifically for the 3015LF. Any other woofer is a crapshoot and negates the benefits of the fEARful design.

You might have good luck with the Kilomax in a Bill Fitzmaurice (BFM) Simplexx 15, but I don't know if it is one of the recommended drivers for that enclosure. Join the BFM forum and ask.

Sell the Kilomax and buy a 3015LF.

  8. I didn't realize it was actually based around the 3015LF. I figured it just had to be a good 8ohm 15" speaker. Maybe I'll look into the Simplexx or sell the speaker as someone else mentioned.

It's a mistake a few people have made, always gets the same response from the fEARful faithful.

If you can find a design that suits your Kilomax that is probably the most cost effective solution. One of the cab gurus here might be able to assist you in a suitable enclosure.

  11. I joined that BFM forum but am awaiting activation. I was just wondering if anyone here would know if this speaker would work in the simplexx design or any of the other BFM designs. Really any suggestions for a cabinet for this speaker would be great. All I've found is a youtube video of a guy that built a cab for it but it's basically just a slideshow. I'd just like an idea of what to do with this speaker so I don't have to lug about my old Peavey 215 loaded with eminence omega 15's.
