OK, I want to be able to use one cab at some jobs and two at others. I like 4-ohm's, either 1-cab @ 4 or two @ 8-ohms. Well I got a new cab and it's 4-ohm and if i want to add a 15 8-ohm to it I will end up at 2.7-ohm and will need a amp to handle that. So here it is, I know Carvins BX500 will run at 2-ohm and so will several Eden heads (not the new WTX500 though). I think Genz-Benz will update the Shuttle 6.0 for you. What other amp heads will go 2-ohm.

Also Carvin BX600 and BX1200, though the BX1200 will only run bi-amped into 2 ohms - bridged mode needs 4 ohms or higher.

there already is one on here ... I cannot post links, but somebody will probably chime in with it ... it is probably a year or two old, and could use some updating, but it is a good place to start ... I have had the Carvin B800 and Yamaha BBT500H, both of them are 2 ohm capable ...

Off the top of my head.........

    Aguilar DB359 (with mod)
    Aguilar DB750
    Ampeg SVT (vintage)
    Ampeg SVT II
    Ampeg SVT II Pro
    Ampeg SVT Pro-8
    Carvin B1500
    Fender 300 Pro
    Marshall VBA 400
    Mesa M-Pulse 600
    Mesa Big Block 750
    Trace Elliot V6
    Trace Elliot V8

Thats what I could come up with quick. Some of the old Acoustic Control amps can do 2ohm. I'm sure there is some more I didn't think of.

Don't strain your brain too hard, the link posted a couple posts up covers a huge percentage of them.

I've been reading the other post, getting some ideas. I may call Carvin and talk with a tech about the BX600 and the BX1200 vs the BX500 they all go down to 2-ohm. Thanks for the help.
  7. Check out swr too. I have a bass 350 that will go to two, and if Im not mistaken, the 550x and 750/x will also go to 2 ohms.

Not so sure about their SM lineup

To add to your list, the GBE-750, 1200 and the ShuttleMax 12.0 which will drive 2 x 4 ohm loads on seperate power amp channels. In fact, any manufacturer's amp that will drive 2 channels at 4 ohms will drive the equiv. 2 ohm load when cabinet loads are split up this way.

(The Shuttle 6.0 and ShuttleMax 6.0 will only drive a 4 ohm minimum load)

I have an older Euphonic Audio iamp 800 that will handle the 2 ohm load.

most if not all Peavey amps run @ 2 ohms. And many of their power amps as well.

Would there be an issue with the 4 ohm cab vs the 8 ohm one running off the same amp, even if the amp can go down to 2 ohms?

How would the watts be used by both cabs? Would they get equal share or would the 4 ohm take more and be louder?

The 4 ohm cab would get 2/3 the watts, the 8 ohm cab would get 1/3 the watts. Whether that's good or bad depends on the specific cabs, their power handling ability, and the frequency ranges sent to each. Loudness is only fractionally dependent on watts.
