Hey guys, this is my first post! I'm looking to take my JBass and redo the body, pickups, and tuning keys. It currently has the black body with the white pickups. I'll post pictures in a second. First, I would like to know the price range of this "project" with me doing it and then the price of a luthier. And what exactly is the process for redoing the body of a bass. I'm thinking that i want the same black one but in more of a midnight blue color.

Well from my experience redo the paint job on a guitar is mildly expensive. About 200 us dollars depending on the paint job. You could do it your self with spray paint lacquer from reranch. This is their link. http://reranchstore.stores.yahoo.net/index.html they as well give good tutorials on painting (http://www.reranch.com/basics.htm) but it is text so watching youtube videos help as well. The tuners would be the price of the tuners you want to change to and pick ups could range depending as well. Better to find what you want to use and then add for labor.

25 dollars with shipping on tuners - http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-FENDER-...961?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3f1619b839
Basic jbass pickups but still good quality is 100 - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/dimarzio-dp149-ultra-jazz-bass-pickup-set

and I would say 150 dollars left for paint from reranch, I would get 2 cans because you would need practice such as using on a 2 by 4. Sand and sealer clear finish. Sand paper.
So maybe 300 or so if you did it yourself, not sure as I am not a luthier, I would not know their price.
