I play a lot of swing bass, and lately I've been thinking of learning upright. After years of playing the electric bass/bass guitar (whatever you prefer to call it), I want to expand.
    My problem is money.
How should I get started? Would I have to take lessons to transfer my bass skills to the upright? Is buying a bass recommended, or should I rent one from a local store to learn on? What are some good starting basses?

Sorry, I know that's sort of an earful of questions (or an eyeful on a computer monitor). Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
