My main bass kept shorting out during shows. Turns out there was one of those cheap plastic jacks in there. Bought a jack but it didnt fit the hole. While we have it apart my guitar player takes the plastic jack and turns it, winding the wires into a tight spiral. I put it back together like that and lo and behold it worked. Still does.....I bought the correct size jack a month or so ago and still havent replaced it.

So because we tried to fix it and sort of kind of did.....am I still lazy for not doing it right?

Very first show I ever did, playing Anesthesia Pulling Teeth. The jack on my fender p-bass started loosening and shorting out, had to stop to tighten it, felt like a jagoff. Hasn't happened since, thank god.

Ah ! You can definitely count me in this club. I just tighten the jack a bit with my hand when I want to play.

  10. We need a "I'm too lazy to do a search so I'll ask a question that's been asking 20 times in the past week" club. :D

I'm a bit embarrassed to say I have you beat. I've had a loose jack on a bass that shall remain nameless for almost 6 years. But, it works just fine as long as I don't use a right angle cable. :)

Can't join. Just got my MM back from my guitar tech. Couldn't stand having my bass that way.

That's the kind of half-assed know-how we're looking for here.

Another exemplar of efficiency! Why fix something that has a work-around? If only my wife understood.

  15. I hate the loose jacks that you have to keep on tightening like every time you use the instrument.

Why? - when you can form a club and have a beer. A couple of cord jiggles gets us down the road for a few more songs.
Alembic player? Sorry dad, that's not how we roll.
