Loose tuner pegs

The pegs (not sure of the term, the string is winded around this part) in my bass are loose. I've seen this on quite many basses, even on new ones, but it's always been a thing of amazement for me.

Does this looseness affect tone or sustain or anything?

Or are they supposed to be loose... :bag:
  2. I take it you are describing the bit of slop that the peg has inside the bushing when mounted on the headstock?

I don't know why this is. But a tuned string will pull the post to one side and take up all of the slack so it doesn't matter too much. Besides, the nut is actually where most vibrations are transferred. The tuners don't have as much to play in the tonal variety of the instrument IMO.

Yup, that's what i meant, (i think). I knew the fact that most vibr. is transferred via the nut, but was just curious of this. Apparently it doesn't have a noticeable effect..

Yet another question found an answer from TB! Thanks!
