low output, crappy tone

    Hey Guys,
    I bought a Traben Phoenix a few months ago and wasn't happy with the low output or overall tone of it so I bought new pups for it (Delano JC 5 HE/D and Delano MC 5 HE/S-L). I got my bass tech to install them and when I played it through my practice rig it had the same low output and tone.
    I read up on changing pre amps or pre amp voltage and neither of them said it would boost vol. or do anything but give me better control over the pre amp.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Has the pre-amp gone bad? Did the tech test it at all?

    I have no idea. I literally played it once after I bought it (off the net) and went, "Needs better pups." So unless the preamp was crap when I got it, I dunno.
