lowering pickup height

Hello,

The pickup on my warwick is pretty hot. IF i run my eq flat, i still overdrive my fulldrive pedal at its absolute lowest setting. My question is, if i lower my pickup will it 1) decrease my output volue? 2) affect the tone and attack of the bass? I like the sound, but i would like for there to be just a bit less signal coming out...

that actually made the overall volume lower...so when i engaged the pedal, my bass was quieter....i do not mind it being lower hitting the pedal, but then i have to be able to compensate for that loss...so i assumed if i sent an overall lower signal i can turn up the gain on the amp...
