    Hello, newb question:

    What's the lowest that a 4 String Bass can be tuned without too much modification? (meaning, not the A, D, G, C or B, E, A, D mod) The lowest I've tuned my 4 string was D, G, C, F and Dropped D.

  2. I would think D-G-C-F being a whole step below standard would be about all you could go down before you would get a bunch of rattle.

I stay tuned to standard, much simpler - imo.

I've had mine tuned down to C standard with out any modification, a bit of rattle but really not as much as I would've thought.

B is the lowest one used conventionally, and even that had an almost unbearable amount of rattle. Timmy C used to flip his headstock to create more tension on it so it wouldn't be so bad in lower tunings.
