Anyone every heard of and, more importantly, heard Madison Bass amps? I'd never heard of the company, but they're out of Colorado and there's a local guy that sells them. They're inexpensive, but I was just wondering if they're cheap because they're small and unknown ... or if they're cheap because they're cheap and shoddy.

My friend has one! It's called a Phat 300. It is really awesome. He got it a while back used for 300 bucks or something with a 2x15 no name cab that was probably for a PA. I think it's fairly old. If you go to the site, it loks like it's geared towards metal dudes. There is something wrong with either the amp or the cab where every now and then the power cuts out and I have to turn the master really loud which makes it come back.

I'm really bad at describing tone and such, but I like it and it cuts through. It seems to be built pretty well. It's a kind of solid state tone that seems like it can work in a lot of contexts. I do not play metal. I play in indie and math rock bands and this thing works. I would go for it if it was pretty cheap.

Of course, if you can try it first, do so and check what kind of warranty your getting.

A lot of bands are getting endorsed by them as of recent, most being metal and hardcore bands. They have the cheaper line of bass cabs, that is much the same as any Hartke transporter, Ashdown MAG, GK Backline, or the like in terms of quality, but all have different tone. Their higher priced models are nicer, maybe more in line with an Ampeg classic series, GK RBX series, or similar, but again, different tone. I've heard quite a few of their 810 cabs on tours coming through, all their players have mixed feelings on them. A hired gun for a band told me he HATED them, while the bass player for Soilent Green seemed to really enjoy the cabs.
