    one day....
Just got 2 8" Magnat Drivers, made in germany, 201 is the model. the speakers they are the woofer part of says they go to 38hz in a big twin ported cab, unfortunately each cab weighs 58 pounds, so I need to build a lighter cab for them, I'm hoping they are similar to bag end 8's, they have cast frames and huge magnets. I'll post pics later. I think my baby blue clone just found their 8's! headed out to get refoaming kits now. I love habitat for humanity re-store!1
Niederfrequenz prot is written on one by hand.??

HOLY Popes in farmer Clothes Batman!!

These are not just the best 8's Ive ever had, they are lower, richer and smoother than any 10 I can remeber, they actually sound like a very punchy 12. I Swear to Dog!

So I just finished replacing the rotten foam with rubber surrounds, and I did a few other repairs. I happened to have the drivers out of a Eden 210 cab, 4.76Cu Feet vented.
I popped them in, they fit the holes(the surround fit inside the opening, perfectly) and I wired it up to 8ohms. I havent turned them up loud yet, but loud isn't what i'm loking for in an 8, I want full range and punch, but beow 40hz is important. These go WAY lower than a BB2m. Almost as low as my subwoffer, I'll dig up my cord and tone test.

Dang, Does Magnat still make drivers>? They are in Germany )drivers so old they say West Germany!)

Ok, whatever these are is what I want, How can I test them>?
Maybe I can send one to Eminence and see if they can copy it, its similar to an Eminence

    My specs
    Impedance - 8 ohms
Power Requirements - 200 watts maximum
    Frequency Response - 28-3500 Hz
    Sensitivity - 95 dB at 1 KHz, 1 watt, 1 meter

I think I found the new version just now , anyone speak german?

EDIT, does anyone see sensitivity in this one? No clue what this means, surprised they say 8'woofer instead of 200mm

Nope, this is it, how are they getting flat to 33hz in an 8?
150 euros will keep me off em.
    Diameter:23.8 cm, Mounting Depth:10 cm, Response Bandwidth:32 - 3500 Hz, Recommended Amplifier Power:20 - 180 Watt, Crossover Frequency:3500Hz, Sensitivity:91 dB/Watt, Nominal (RMS) Output Power:100 Watt, Max Output Power:180 Watt, - 32 - 35000 Hz 1 x woofer driver - 200mm

EDIT, these are "ceiling speakers" whatever that means.

  4. Super low sensitivity (those numbers are like car subs).

To get the same volume out of one of those compared to a driver with 101db sensitivity would take you 10X the power (only problem is the low power handling - so good luck with that).

How is it a pipe dream? I played them all day, they sound amazing. Magnat is still in business, they are a viable company in Germany. And they make superior 8" drivers. The ones I have are from 1987, I'm trying to find a similar one that is in current production as I want to build a 2x8 studio bass monitor capable of producing a low b fundamental. These have decent sensitivity 95db @1k (high end hifi drivers, the ones I found online probably are car audio, I can't read german so I don't know, they look similar.

I am not musing. I am not "blogging" . I was reaching out to our INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY of bass players to see if I can source, or at least find out more about an 8" driver that I have discovered thru painful trial and error to be superior.

If you don't like my threads, don't post on them, and guess what? They will roll away into obscurity, until the day someone else may be looking for similar information.

Those may be car subs, there are two 8" magnat drivers I found on amazon.DE posted there, one for 40£ one for 150£ I don't have my numbers yet, the ones I tested are 95db, loud with 100 watts, I was too afraid to max it, but "loud enough". With an swr bass 350, they are room rattling(living room) at gain 7, master 2. Flat eq. I didn't realize it was a 10x difference from 91 to 101, so 10 watts vs 1000 ? No wonder the kappa pro is so loud.

Sure, i would probably be better using time by just using Faital neo 8's, but I like VW and Porche, BMW, Germany has excellent engineering, and that's not how I operate.

If you promise to buy at least 1000 units you might get Eminence to special design a speaker to your specs. Pipe dream or blog.

I know Magnat from the 80's, they did build some great hifi-loudspeakers but you will not find a magnat driver from current production that "looks" like the ol' ones.
You want to build a studio bass monitor or "just" a studio monitor that can reach approx 31hz -3dB?

95db @1khz doesn't say anything about the efficiency in the lows, if it's an 8" hifi driver then the sensitivity in the lows will be somewhere between 85-87dB (with a correct enclosure).
