Make my own bass guitar

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by great4fish, Jan 27, 2013.

  1. Hey guys, so I was thinking that I want to learn how to make my own bass, but not from one of those kits. I want to learn how to make a real bass from scratch, or at least close to from scratch. Do any of you know where I can do that?

The "How To" and FAQ section has been very helpful for me. Also looking at build threads to see how everything is done.

Short of enrolling in a luthiers school, this website is a great resource for one who wants to get into building.

I stalked the LC for a few years before diving into my first project.

Read the stickies, use the search function, don't ever say 'tonewood,' and enjoy your adventure into our beloved, rewarding, bottomless moneypit of a hobby. ( Except you guys making money at it. Like, all four of you. :bag: )

What kind of bass? A bolt on neck like a p or j bass? Do you want to make the neck also and fret it?
  6. Probably a bolt on with P/J pickups. And yes I would want to atleast fret the neck.
