I just talked to someone there and I'm counting on finding a good selection to pick from. I'm looking for a head/cabinet(s) type rig for church and recording purposes that I can expand with at a later time if necessary. So compactness and portability is an issue(hatchback here). Thanks for responding, T. Alan
Been there often. Sean (the big guy with the shaved head) is great and has always been very helpful when I've demoed equipment...mostly amps and cabs which he's had to move into the soundroom from the showroom-not an easy task. I've done a lot of research on this and if you're looking for a high-end dealer in the area, this is about your only bet outside of Flynn Guitars in Evanston.
Yup! I like these guys a lot! They're real honest and seem to have really good pricing. Also, I believe the sales people there are NOT on commission, so they're not high pressure. Flynn is good people, too. That's where I bought my Spector, when they were still dealers.
Thanks for all the replys and for getting me more excited than I already am . I'll pop out a map from Mapquest to Flynn too-just in case! I'm from out-of-town so I need all the help I can get. I usually enjoy a ride to the W. suburbs but I get tired of Scam Cash and GC. T. Alan
Everyone, Thanks again for all your input. The trip Sat. was a success overall. The 1st stop to Make-N-Music was only somewhat of a success though. We arrived 1st thing in the morning. The salesman started off being very helpful. We gathered a bunch of equiptment and got our room and tried out various combinations of cabs and heads. After settling on a combination( Bag End 15" coax with SWR 750 ), we got back together with our salesman and began to number crunch. To our disbelief, we were quoted list...LIST! Needless to say, we headed out. On our way to the West Suburbs, we stopped at what used to be DJ's Music on Ogden-what a shame!- and tried out what was a very nice Trace Elliott rig( 2x10's and their 300+ watt tube pre/solid state power "V" head ). We got to, of all places, Guitar Center, and got the runner-up rig we tried out at Make-N-Music was beheld for over $300 LESS! On top of that, I got the rig packed in boxes as opposed to the demo equiptment that M-N-M tried to sell me for list. I highly recommend checking out M-N-M for the experience. But I found their sales to be, well...disgusting. T. Alan
Congrats on your purchase! I'm a bit surprised that they gave you that bad of a price! Did you try to haggle with them at all? How did you ask how much something was? If they were under the impression that you were only concerned about the "list" price and didn't think you were going to buy something that day, then I'd have thought they'd be more accommodating. Just surprised, that's all. Congrats on your new purchase, again, however!
I tried and tried to haggle prices with them. Very helpful at first, they later became indignant after realizing I wasn't going to give in on a $300 difference for floor models. I also showed them the CASH I had on me-made no difference. We're talking a $1,500+ rig here! But it's okay, GC got me in the box for $1250-tax included/MonsterCable speaker cable included. I'm at peace now. DJ's is still where it's always been, but it's really run-down now. It's pretty sad. I played my 1st Warwick and Trace gear there. T. Alan
I've been to DJs once, about 100 years ago. It was too far away back then. Now... Anyway, I'm sorry to hear that you had that negative experience. I really am!
