We are having a really strong Santa Ana wind event here in Socal.
I took this photo a few minutes ago from my house looking across the Santa Monica Bay at the Malibu coastline. So far, 10,000 acres have burned. They are evacuating the area as they believe this fire is going to burn all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

Really nasty business, especially with the offshore winds. Beyond the awful property damage and direct physical harm, inhaling smoke for days or weeks is very rough on many of us as well.

That would be interesting to see. I remember the year there was snow on the beach and people had snowball fights!

I know that it's not the right moment but "Malibu Fire" sounds like a great band name

This is my backyard and we know a ton of people who have already lost their homes and or who have been evacuated. Here's another pic from PCH side of Malibu near my work.

FingerDub...That really brings it home...I'm an Angelino and know that HWY well. Holy Cr@2!!

My cousin lives in Paradise outside of Chico. He got out of his home in under an hour with his car and his RV. He lost EVERYTHING! He's extremely lucky to be alive and to have a home on wheels. Confirmed dead: 5, expecting 200+ dead.

I was really hoping that we'd dodged the bullet of "multiple massive fires". That last year was an anomaly. This is so incredibly dangerous and destructive.

Very cool photo (looking at it, strictly, in a photographic way)!

Me, I'd be heading north on the PCH; looks pretty empty. Maybe spend some time at Pt. Lobos.

Wow...that is a very dramatic photo! This morning they are saying 70,000 acres burned. The Santa Ana winds are suppose to return Sunday morning so we are not out of this yet.

Pardon me being in knowledgeable on such things, but wouldn’t they have the super scoopers out on this? I heard that they were going to evacuate the Pt. Mugu Naval
Station. I can only imagine the mess if it starts to creep down that gnarly hill from TO to Camarillo/Oxnard.

don't know about today, but yesterday it was too windy for them :(

btw, our condo miles away in east culver city smells of smoke and the smoke has dimmed the sun a bit, and in marina del rey earlier today it was so smoky that you couldn't see street lights one block away. very scary stuff.

too all of you in malibu or near it - or near/at the other fire - please stay safe!

When I lived in Mar Vista that was pretty normal just from the smog.

The Canadian Super Scoopers were flying yesterday for a while. That said, this fire is so massive it is like throwing a couple drops of water on a large barn fire. Tomorrow, the wind gust are expect be 50 mph on the ridges. I am hoping the fire does not start raging again like yesterday.
