MAN! what a find...

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Geej, Feb 7, 2005.

  1. I dodged the proverbial Behringer bullet with this one... was really considering the cheap Behringer BX1200.. when I found...

The Roland DBass 500... for... wait... forrrrr... $500 Australian :hyper: (about 350 US)... in a pawn shop... (my american friend loves pointing out how I pronounce pawn as porn  )...

Man this thing is rated 160 watts... but its the loudest friggin 160 combo amp ive ever heard... :D

I can honestly say its the best amp ive ever owned (no joke, this is only my second... heh)

Great chorus effect and compression and awesome low end punch and I love their tube amp modelling... great tone.. could use more memory functions..... I didnt take it past 4 because my house was rattling :eyebrow: ... far exceeded my expectations... and I tested that Behringer...and some other, well out of my price range amps (Hartke wedges..dont know their real name [the one that looks strikingly similair to the Behringer BX1200], fender bassman etc...) this one kicked em all... even the higher watts fender bassman...

I was gonna settle for the Behringer :bag: (i know you all hate the B word) but for about $100 more, which was still in budget, I've found myself an amp that I won't be replacing any time soon

SO PROBABLY THE ONLY REAL WORTH READING THING IN THIS POST.. sorry about my blabbering.. ( im just so happy :hyper: )

IT DIDNT COME WITH : -The footswitch pedal
    -And the manual

EDIT: OH doi... the manufacturers website has the manual...

Double doi... i found the footswitch as well

    :bassist: Rickity rock!

Yes, I love how these Roland DB combos sound. In fact, I was planning to get a DB 900 (320W, 4x10" + 2x12" passive radiators). Tested one and it was LOUD and had HUGE low end for a combo with the same amazing tone you found on the DB 500. Pain is it costs almost as much as my entire rack+full stack rig (1800€ here). Too expensive! :( Anyway, congrats on a superb buy!!!!

  5. Nice one Geej, I just invested in one myself. I'm yet to try it at at full volume as we've taken a couple of weeks off rehearsing, but I can't wait! So far, from what I've heard, I'm going to be a happy bunny. :D

If you're from Sydney, go and have a look at Jackie Orszaczky's band (any band with 2 bass players has to be worth checking out, regardless of what type of music you're into). The amp you described sounds very similar to the one he's been using for decades.

  7. We have the same problem in southern New England.

So don't feel bad about it.

  8. Yea, I searched it in google, found their site n whatever... looks like it hasnt been updated in a while by the gig dates, but do they still play
    Every Tuesday night at Newtown
and every Sunday night at the Fringe Bar in Paddington...

Because I think I might go check them out... sounds pretty cool... btw, I'm under 18... that might be a problem?
