Marcus Miller IV: weak "active" signal

I recently bought a Fender Marcus Miller IV. I've been playing a bit and found that the "active" circuit produces a rather weak signal, a bit lower than the passive.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the active circuit produce a much "hotter" signal? And I did replace the battery.

Also, the active tone controls start producing some change of the tone when they are more than half way. For what I read here they should produce tone variation almost immediately.

Final question: are the diagrams in Fender.com for MMV valid also for MMIV? http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/basses/0197802A/SD0197802APg2.pdf
