Has anyone here ever A/B'd a Marcus Miller Jazz (in passive mode) with a '75 Reissue Jazz? They look pretty similar, except for the bridge (and the pre-amp, but I won't use that anyway; I rather have it passive :)), so I was wondering what differences you can notice between them?

    i owned a 75RI for a while.

    absolutely LOVE IT!

i've played the MM sig as well.

both are great basses, but i'd take the 75RI over the MM hands down.

i think Fender has done a SUPERIOR job with all the RI's.

    the 75 jazz

    the 57 and 62 precision

i've tried and loved all 3.

on the guitar side, the 52 telecaster is mindblowing!

There's a '75 Reissue jazz on Ebay right now, it's going for quite a bit cheaper than a marcus Miller.

I had a MM bass and the fit and finish was superb. I did not care for the active side of the bass. I bought a MIA jazz and find it has a better tone, at least to my ears. You could get a good tone out of the MM, but you had to get the actives on and play with it to approach the sound of the MIA.
The Japanese neck on the MM was as good as I have ever had in my hands and fit together better than my current MIA which also has a good fit. The Japanese quality was excellent, I just did not care for the active circuit. The pups in passive are not the same sound as my MIA. DR Fatbeams on both basses, so strings were the same. Finally sold the MM. The MM is a fine instrument, I just prefer the MIA to it. That opinion and $7 should get you a latte at Starbucks.

    Thanks for the replies!

About the e-bay-finds: the MIA 75RI only ships within the USA and the MIJ doesn't have the bridge pup in the sweet-spot :(

To fhodshon: how would you describe the difference in sound and playability between the MM and the 75RI?

I own both basses and here's my take. They feel pretty much the same but sound different because they have different pups. It's hard to explain a passive Marcus Miller because of the tone control (or lack of) but its is very close to the 75RI bass (MIA made). Specs besides pups are pretty much the same.

The 75 is better. The neck is also wider than the Marcus.
