Why the hell am I gassin for this pre? I've seen the you tube vids, I think I'm doomed. Anyone else share this covet? Part 1 Part 2 And no, not because it's Marcus. This pre actually looks to be very useful. I mean a 3 band para eq that can be pre or post from the compressor? Thats just cool to me.
It's a shame his name is plastered all over it. He's got the same with his bass. Makes the decal look bloody stupid. Call me shallow but it's a deal breaker for me. Besides I don't dig artist series stuff. But it does sound like a good amp
Oh my... I think I just wet myself a little... My incredible appreciation for his music aside, that looks like a REALLY nice pre, which is ironic for me to say because I generally do NOT like SWR products...
That looks really cool, he seems to have really sat down and thought about what bassists would like in a preamp. I just hope it come with a foot pedal for boost, mute, compressor etc. because theres so many buttons on that thing. I also liked how he told us not to go crazy with the compressor position... come on theres only 2 positions it can go, kind of hard to be crazy with that.
I certainly hope it's not as unbelievably noisy as his signature bass is. :scowl: Unfortunately, I've lost faith in that corporation (SWR + Fender) to bring out anything but badly mass-produced corporate crud with nice shiny stickers all over it. Their stuff certainly looks nice, but invariably sounds like ****. Maybe this one will be different... I certainly hope so for the sake of Marcus' integrity. I been a fan of his since his playing with Miles. Cheers, Cameron
Why does everybody say that about his basses?... Every single one I've seen is dead quiet unless you stagger the volume of the pups, and that's just a natural J-Bass thing... Then again, most of the ones I've played (my own and every one in every mom and pop shop and GC I go into) are probably post-06 basses, so maybe they only recently fixed the problem. Either way, IME it's gone now. As far as your opinion of SWR goes, I'm going to have to agree. Marcus Miller signing up with them gives me hope, however.
Great preamp! I played it a few days ago through a Bergie IP310, great dynamics and variety in tone. I didn't have to travel far away from flat to find a tone I just loved...and flat period sounded great anyway. (probably some voicings in there, so what I "saw" as "flat" probably wasn't) But...I'm going to play a mini Bongomania here...PLEASE do a search before you post. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=440270&highlight=Marcus
I also got to play it thru the same set up as you and I was impressed that it was real nice and transparent the way a preamp should sound whether his name is on it or not
i have it and its pretty awesome, and FYI, this is probably the 3rd thread i've seen this week about the pre.
