i got to play through a mark bass amp this weekend and i was floored. but it is to much for me. does anyone know if another amp does that deep clear sound like that at a lower price point.

Keep checking Talk Bass classified and you'll find a very nice used LMKII for $350 to $400. It's the best way to go. Mark Bass amps are reliable, easy to use and they sound as good as a bass amp possibly can! Got 2 of 'em.

I say get a new one, but time it right when there are sales on MF or GC. If it's still too much, save up for it. It's worth it, IMO. That's what I did, AND caught my LMIII on sale. I paid $539, I think it was. I just saved gig money for it. Markbass is really good stuff.

Then again, you might do well with used stuff, too. I just like to buy new, myownself.

Used LMII's can be had for around $325-350, even at Guitar Center. That's a very low price point for a portable, high wattage head. My R500 is super reliable, and I even have an LMII that I keep in a backpack for a backup. In almost 4 years, I've NEVER needed it (knock on wood) :bag:

can you, or would you recommend against running these heads with other brand of speakers.

You can run a Markbass head with ANY cab you choose. No rules here. Just watch the volume and listen for signs of distress on the speaker. You should decide what Markbass head you want then try THAT head on several different speakers and see which one sounds best together.

I run my Markbass R500 head w/ an SWR 2x10 and Orange 1x15...

it sounds awesome! (crappy pic, sorry)
