Markbass Randy Jackson 151cab

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Brodie, Apr 11, 2012.

  1. Hey guys- I tried a Markbass Randy Jackson 151 cab last weekend and I liked how it sounded. Does anybody on here gig with just this cab alone? Does it get loud enough?
I have a Markbass F1 for a head if that helps. Thanks.

I have the Markbass 212 with the LittleMarktube800. The model you have is 500W and the cab is a 15"(rated 400w). It should be loud enough based on the stats. . I am sure somebody with the exact same rig will let you know.

  3. Yes, I am currently gigging with this cab alone, using the matching Markbass Randy Jackson TTE 500 Head. It's PLENTY loud for me...I'll eventually pick up an ext cab for bigger shows with limited PA support, but this is an EXCELLENT cab. Larger and deeper than the NY 151, and the adjustable compression horn is a big step up from the piezos they use in many of their cabs.

I've only been running this setup for about a week and a half, play mostly medium-sized venues.

Is it also a different horn than in their other cabs?

  5. You know, it might be...I'm still a Markbass newbie. I like the fact that I can shut the horn down completely when needed, which wasn't the case in the CMD 121p I traded in towards it. I did run it against other 15's, and it sounded better and weighed less than anything in the price range.

There's a big difference between the piezo and horn tweeters in Markbass cabs. There are plenty of folks who like them but the MB piezos are a weak link, IMO.

  7. I gotta say, I'm enjoying this cab a lot! I absolutely cannot believe how such a large enclosure with such a deep and warm response could be so lightweight. Additionally, I read on another forum that these cabinets are "voiced" (and I'm not sure what that really means), which maybe explains why the mids seem to pop a litttle better than I've experienced with other 15's.

I've only run my ex-CMD 121p and my current 500TTE head through it. I'm curious if others are using different heads with this cabinet, and what their experiences are.

And dammit, this thing sounds so good that I'm tempted to get another one. I'm also toying with the idea of pairing it with the NY 406. Either would be a pretty serious rig, IMHO.

I have to tip my hat to Markbass. They've separated me from a good deal of money lately, with no buyers remorse :bassist:
