i know that the marshall jmp1 is a guitar preamp, but i recorded basslines with this all tube midi preamp with great results and i'd like to know if someone out there tried it with the bass.

    John Turner, perhaps? :)

I don't know about the JMP1, but the guitarist in my band (also a bass player to some extent) recorded his Warwick Corvette through his JCM900 and mic'ed 4x12" cab. Sounded great, maybe a little light on the bassy "thump", but still great.

well, i use it pretty saturated, as much gain as it can handle, without feeding back, eq with the mid scooped a bit, and using the OD 2 voicing.

    Here
Digging out an old thread for a question:

I have a JMP1 wich I sometimes use , cool for some stuff but it is dramatically lacking in the lows.... I know , it's guitar stuff.

I have good success when splitting the signal "a la" Rick'O'sound , top end in that and low end clean but I would like to know if someone Modded it in some way to achieve better low end response.

There is a lot of modification schematics on the net but notting that seams to indicate a better low end response.

    Am I dreaming ?

Can you point us at some of those schematics?

Cool, I downloaded the schematic and it will probably take me a day or two to have anything potentially intelligent to say. If you're OK with reducing gain a bit in order to to gain lows, just concentrating on the tube stages' gain staging resistors and tweaking cathode bypass values might conceivably buy you quite a bit more low end. There may be other bottlenecks, but that is one obvious possible set. I have an old Hafler tube guitar preamp that I modded for bass duty pretty successfully using a similar approach, FWIW.
