Wondering if anyone has used a Bart b-axis as their neck pickup in J/MM configured bass? If so, what MM pickup are you using? The Bart MMs are too polite, IMO, looking for something that will be a good tonal/even-output match for the b-axis.
This will be going into an MTD Heir and I plan to drop in a 5-knob East Uni-Pre to run it. I’ve been considering keeping the MIK MM pickup that came with the bass (It’s a Bart design and should be an ok match for the b-axis), it isn’t bad, but I’m wondering if upgraded pre-amp will expose it’s shortcomings when paired up with the other components.
Any assistance, experience or suggestions will be most appreciated!

I have a 4-knob uni-pre and the ability to balance the levels may do the trick in this situation. I would keep the Bart MM with the East pre, and see how tweaking the individual levels work for you.

If you want something with a different character, Nordstrand’s take on the MM is worth a try.
