For sale is my Vantage Avenger basses with the original hard case and a spare neck. Made at the Matsumoku factory in Japan. This is a 1981 in a cool silvery finish with matching headstock.

This is a very beautiful precision style bass. For those not familiar, these basses were mass marketed during Fender's "Dark Years" when many people associated Fenders with poor quality control and an "antiquated" mass-marketed design. The waning of Fender at the time was an opportunity for many Japanese makers to successfully introduce their own versions of old classics that had revamped features that the players of the day otherwise had to modify their Fenders to get. This bass is a great example where the folks at Vantage put a different spin on the familiar P bass model in a similar vein to the old Japanese Ibanez Blazer basses.

What you have is a P-bass killer, with great fit and finish and modernized classical looks! The factory precision style pickups in this bass were modeled after DiMarzios which were the premium and preferred pickup of choice in those days and what most Fender players were swapping for.

This bass is in some ways a Gibson SG/Fender P hybrid looks-wise and design-wise with perhaps a little bit of a design forward application to the headstock. Note the flat edges but elegant belly cuts that make their way into the top. A stark contrast which results in a nice, almost sculpted design. This has a brass Fender style barrel saddles bridge and a brass nut. And a great neck-- maple board and a nice deep profile somewhat reminiscent of the Aria Pro II Superbass that was also made in the Matsumoku Factory.

The DiMarzio-inspired precision pickup is wound hot! Put flats on this (as I have on some of my other Vantages) and it just thumps! Bass is full 34" scale. Very easy to play!

I just checked the set up and restrung the bass with a brand new set of rounds so she will be good to gout right out of the box!

This bass is in fair cosmetic condition but very presentable. It has been well loved for its 35 year life. Since I like full disclosure the following is a list of the imperfections. There are some dings and a couple of nicks as shown on body and neck. There is also a large scratch on the top of the bass and one or two deep scratches on the fingerboard that do not affect playability. Very slight oxidation/patina on the pickup pole pieces and saddle screws. This bass is more of a player than a sparkler, but it is very presentable with and has a cool finish. See pictures for details. From your audience's point of view, these aren't so noticeable, but I strive to give full disclosure.

This bass also comes with a spare neck with a natural headstock. However, the spare neck had a damaged headstock that was repaired as the pictures show. The neck is stable and can be used as is or you could use it for the spare parts, i.e. the extra brass nut, and the Gotoh style Vantage-branded tuners.

For a quick sale I am now asking only $230 obo shipped anywhere in the CONUS in the original hard case and with the spare neck. I believe you could part this bass out and sell the case to make a tidy profit but my hope is that whomever buys with will enjoy it as the old Japanese Matsumoku basses are pretty cool.

I am not all that interested in trades at this point as this sale is to finance some recent purchases, but if you think you have a compelling trade offer PM me and you never know.

Thanks for looking and feel free to PM any questions.
