  2. Cool interview!

I'll tell you though... buy the DVD/CD, they sound WAY better than the clips on that site. Matt is a monster!

The thing I think that sometimes is lost in his incredible technique is the fact he is really pushing some unique boundaries of the jazz idiom. The electronica blend to his chordal approach is very fresh imho. His use of surround sound pushes the envelope of the cd listening experience and I believe it will play a more prominent role in the future of his recordings. In a few years people will emulate his techniques very well (if not sooner), but I would be surprised if bassists will speak as much as Matt does in his compositions. He runs the whole gambit in Shapeshifter and if you do not own it, buy it. I especially dig the nearly minimalist approach on "Three Tree" there is a simple chord progression with ripping solos around it, cool stuff.

    Matt is disgusting-ly good.

That band is Screaming Headless Torsos meets Lost Tribe meets Tribal Tech. Inccredible!

I mainly want to know how those guys got a beautiful woman to hang out with a bunch of fusion musicians. :D

i finally got my copy of both the DVD, which comes w/ a companion CD, and his new album Shapeshifter from his website, and HOLY CRAP!

its unreal. nevermind that both the uber freakie Jojo Mayer AND Gene Lake play on a few tracks, the awesom Jim Beard plays on a few songs as well.

Matt even signed in gold pen both copies. if you have paypal, get this DVD!

Man, and to think all this time I've had a really hip percussion instrument, and all I have been doing with it is setting my computer on it.
