Garrison's a great player with a heck of a family background for Jazz. You can probably check out his stuff at

If you like Matthew Garrison then do youself a favor and take a look at the Future2Future DVD from Herbie Hancock. Matthew Garrsion's playing absolutely kills in this concert.

Matt's solo album is great! It is one of my 'currently in rotation' in the CD-Changer.

Some of the tunes where he plays multiple tracks using his bass, he covers the percussion, 'Bass', chordal and a melody line... I think that is cool.

There are some other cats that have been doing stuff like that on their solo albums, like Dave Pomeroy and Joseph Patrick Moore (check him out).

I want a SC MG Fodera one of these days, Jared?

I'll second that. My fave tunes are "rockit" and "Chameleon".

    ditto, ditto, ditto....
  7. This is probably a dumb question, but is Matt Garrison the son of Jimmy Garrison, who played with Coltrane?

    I'll play-
My favourite is "Dolphin Dance"...I think.
At about 4 minutes into that tune(I think), Garrison goes off.
And DJ Disk is a bad man!
    TLC is a bad wo-man!

Jimmy Garrison is best known for playing in the Classic Coltrane Quartet...don't forget about his work with Ornette Coleman(Love Call & New York Is Now!).

Any idea why her stay with the Yellowjackets lasted, what...5 minutes?

    If you like TLC-
Check out Billy Kilson with Dave Holland's 5-tet.

He's releasing a book on his technique later this year.

He's also working on an album of songs his dads tunes with guest bass players doing them.

If you go to his website you can order a signed copy of his cd.

I studied with Matt for awhile at the Bass Collective in NYC. He's a great cat, and a monster with a capital M.
