Maybe a Gecko

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by count_funkula, Nov 7, 2002.

  1. I'm thinking I might build a Gecko so I can pick and choose the details I want in my bass. I have found a body on their thrift shop that I like. It's Alder with a flame maple top and 3 tone sunburst. Its routed for Seymour Duncan ASB-5 pickups which are the same size as the Bartolini P2.

I need some advice on neck and pickup selection.

The neck choices are wenge with wenge fretboard or maple with pao ferro fretboard.

Pickup choices are SD ASB-5 or Bart P2.

I want a deep sound with a nice growl to it and very refined highs. No harshness! It needs to be smooth and punchy.

    Advice Please........

I'd say go with the wenge/wenge neck for a nice growl. I'm not sure about the pickups... Barts are known for not being harsh though...

I agree... IME, some Duncans can be aggressive, while all the barts I've used have been clean and clear.
