A Jazz with EMG DC40’s, that is interesting indeed!
While it is certainly a good bass, I think it lacks character, at least to my ears.
I definitely prefer single-coils. Check this for example:
It actually sounds like a Jazz Bass.
Those are actually Aguilar DCBs and not EMGs.
I've never played the Mayones Malaman (or any Mayones for that matter) so I don't know how much their preamp would change the sound but I've played an Ibanez modded with DCBs and an OBP-3 and a Fodera with DCBs and the custom Pope preamp.
Great sounding basses/pickups but definitely a different thing than a traditional jazz bass sound.
That's what I'm talking about.
