Not much going on today. No gig tonight, today's rehearsal moved to tomorrow.

So just for gits and shiggles I grabbed some surf video off the net and edited it to our acoustic version of the Chantays' classic surf song, Pipeline, from a county fair gig a couple of years ago. Admittedly an amateur video guy here but it was fun. :)

Maybe it will help warm up some of our brothers and sisters living in cold country.

I love the part with guy inside the tube and running his hand along the inside wall of water..........oh yes, and a excellent rendition of pipeline as well.

Maybe someday I'll give that long board thing a try:D

  5. Love Pipeline, one of the great surf tunes. My band plays it, and every time we play it in an open air setting there are more people there when we finish than when we began. It pulls people in.

    Nice work!

Glad it helped warm you up Dan. :)

Thanks Scott. The "green room" shots are my favorite parts.

It would be quite a rush riding a paddle board on a wave that big! :woot:

Thanks! I love watching peoples faces when the recognize the tune, always a crowd pleaser. You're right about it drawing people in, especially at outdoor gigs.

Fun Fact: The Chantays wrote and recorded Pipeline while attending Santa Ana High School here in Orange County, just a few miles from me.

Fun Fact #2: A few years ago we were playing Pipeline at a restaurant/bar. A guy was pointing his phone at us the whole song. I thought he was recording us. At break he told us he's friends with Bob Spickard, the Chantays' guitar player and co-writer of the song. He'd called Bob when we started the song and was having him listen. Apparently Bob liked our version. That was cool

    Excellent, Grant! Thanks for sharing.

I agree, Gary. Although I'm just starting to enjoy the cool weather, I'm always in the mood for some California imagery and surf music.

This helps me see why my son-in-law and one of the grandsons go surfing several times a week in North Carolina. Fun fun fun

Hey G... sounded great, and looked great, too...

... it's 25°, here... factor in the wind, and it feels even colder...

... I know it's all relative... I just wish I could swap residences with my relatives, in Hawaii.

I did not know that. Thanks for the info!

True dat. We're thinking about adding another surf tune or two. It's such happy music,

I've liked surf movies since they first came out in the early 60s. :)

Thanks Bunk. It's a really fun song to play. Jay gets a great tone from that Takamine. I've never heard anyone play an acoustic like that.

    Yep, that's the Dean
    Grant OC Fair.

I have hard core surfer friends. It's a sickness.

Not in those clips. I only go for big surr. 50' + ;)

Thanks Spidey. It was 48 here this morning. I 'bout froze to death. :D
  16. One of my Faves! Nice work on the video and the music! -Only thing i would request is a cut in with the GHG every now and then.

Thanks James. Pipeline is one of my favs too.

You're right that there should have been band shots in there. The guys said the same thing. It was my first attempt at editing video to go with sound and I was so wrapped up in trying to find surfing scenes to match the music that I didn't think about it looking better with some performance shots. Oh well, I'll get it right next time ;)

For any interested parties, and since I didn't edit in at least some of the band, here's the performance video of the song. Orange County Fair a couple of years ago. It was a really good gig top to bottom.
