MEC's, good or goblin

  1. Could I raise a practical question at this point

I know that Warwick's MEC's sound awesome by themselves, but I've heard they get burried quite easily. The guy at a bass shop in Sydney said you would be better off getting EMG's or Seymour Duncan's as an alternative, because MEC's don't hold up in the midrange department.

Any opinions from people with MEC's or Warwicks???

    In your basement.
I have a Thumb Bass bolt-on with MEC pickups. They sound OK but when I recorded with them they sounded to noisy, I was going to buy some Barts to replace them but don't have the cash. What I did was to turn the volume down on the bass and use the amp more. The thing that made me like the pickups more was to lower them as much as I could. They sound better to me when they are far away from the string. I got more growl and less finger noise. I also put nickel strings on the bass.
