meet my new bass

  1. back awhile ago I said that I wouldn't buy sight unseen again.. well.. I've decided to make an exception for this :)

it just looks too good.. the price is too right, and I want to branch out to the low B and the fretless fingerboard too much

I've never played a bad Musicman instrument.. and the best low B's I've ever played were on Stingray 5's.. the only fretless musicman I've played was a Sterling, but it was the best fretless experience I've ever had

I've also bought from BassNW before with great satisfaction.

I fully intend to try out both roundwounds and flatwounds on this bass, as well as whatever middle of the road type of strings I can get my grubby little hands on.

I've never seen maple with figuring like that neck has before. Looks cool and weird! Some kind of maple I've never heard of before?

  4. Embellisher, check out the review of the fretless MusicMan Sterling in the new BP.. the figuring on that neck is equally awesome. Since MusicMan doesn't make basses with quilted or otherwise figured tops (except that Anniversary bass), maybe they're using it for the necks.
Steamboat, congrats and I hate you! ;) I have GAS so bad right now I can barely breathe.

  5. Hey! Congratulations! Nice bass - if I was looking for a 5 FL, that one would have been on my list. I've had a number of dealings with BNW, and always found them to be fair, courteous and great guys to deal with. Good Luck with your new toy!

    John,

You wouldn't, by any chance, trying to tell us that we should buy Conklin, now, are you?

  8. Yea I thought the figuring on the neck was very cool and unusual too.

One thing: I thought Musicman only made fretlesses with pao ferro fingerboards, yet BassNW says that one is rosewood. I'm not really the best judge of differentiating between pao ferro and rosewood, but it looks more like pao ferro to me. Anyone?

  9. YES YES YES! I have it I have it I have it!! This thing rules! It has a few dings on it but it still looks incredible. They aren't noticeable from a distance.

It plays and sounds incredible. I didn't think it could be this good.

The back of the neck is a really weird looking birdseye.. I like it.

Here's a crappy pic of me and the bass taken with a webcam.. I'll get some better ones taken.

  10. That's my Fury in the background there.. I still love it.. it just won't get too much playing time for a while. :)

Okay, now that you got it, what is the fingerboard made of? To me it looked like a light colored rosewood.

  12. it looks like rosewood to me

Pao Ferro is is more dark amber colored than brown isnt it?

  13. Also I have no idea whats going on with the picture up there.. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

  14. i fall in love with it man
