I currently have helicore orchestral strings (heavy). but i was looking for a mellower sound for orchestral playing, any suggestions???

  2. I used to have the helicores too and found to be kind of 'grunty' and dull for the orchestra... I have original flexocores now, they're a bit smoother and clearer. Seem to bow more quickly too. I played a bass a while back that had Oliv (gut core) D and G, and that was a super smooth, mellow tone and they felt great under the fingers too. Nice and thick and low tension feeling. I'm going to give those a shot mixed with something else on the bottom for my orchestra bass as soon as I get the $$... they're not cheap.

  3. Jargar strings would be my best bet for you.
They're also available in three gauges.
They're best for bowing, as many players find them too dark for pizz playing.
