Melodic Death Metal With Prominent Bass?

Hey everyone!
I've recently been getting seriously into melodic death metal. It seems like the bass is almost always completely buried though. Which being a bass player is a bit saddening. So, does anyone know of any melodic death metal or folk metal bands where the bass is audible/plays an important roll?

I'm not sure if this is what you would consider "melodic", but check out Obscura.

Oh yes, Obscura definitely has some tasty bass. Not very melodic though And a lot of blast beats on the drums!

I'm thinking you'll have a hard time finding much melodic death metal with predominant bass. It's something I've never heard of, although I may in the future start a solo project to fill that niche... but for now, no.

Wow, you can really hear the bass well on those albums. I know Death, I should have thought of them right away!

Strongly recommend you check out all of their other material too, they have three other albums, an EP, and a debut under another name from like 2005; Sanity's Abberation (as Cryptic Warning), Empire of the Obscene, Existence is Futile, Chaos of Forms, Teratogenesis, and a self titled album.
They used to be a power trio too. Hard to believe three guys could produce something so great.

The albums as a trio are phenomenal. They may become my favorite band. Audible bass can be achieved in metal!

Children of Bodom's album "Hatebreeder" has some pretty sweet bass parts.

The early Dark Tranquillity albums, Skydancer and The Gallery especially, would be my recommendations, they have some very good and audible bass playing on them and would, chronologically and imho, present a better start into the genre than bands from the last or even this decade.

Those Dark Tranquility songs sound great! I'll have to add them to the list of bands to check out. As for the C.O.B. recommendation, I already have every single one of their albums Great band. As far as my "listening experience", it's quite extensive.. Some symphonic metal (Nightwish, Epica), folk/viking metal (Eluveitie, Ensiferum), death metal (In Flames, At The Gates, Wolfheart), math type metal (The Safety Fire, Persefone, Protest the Hero), thrash (Municipal Waste, Nuclear Assault, DRI).

So I guess this thread can be more extensive that just death metal! Just heavier genres of metal with some tasty bass work

Since you also dig folk metal, check out Wilderun. Great bass playing, fairly technical, with some death vocals, and they put on a killer live show if you get the chance.

Barren Earth from Finland. Olli-Pekka Laine (ex-Amorphis, ex-Mannhai, ex-Chaosbreed) playing his T-bird and writing about a third of the music. His bass sits pretty solid in the mix.
