My Gk is 540 watts x2 @ 2 ohms, and 360watts x2 @ 4 ohms. I was looking at Mesa 1200 cab, and I know the GK 4x10 rbh can handle 800 watts. This kinda of stuff drives me crazy. I almost want to go with the Gk cab, but that 1200 Powerhouse sounds so good......
you don't have to have 1080 watts to push the cab. Mesa cabs are pretty efficient so as long as your not completely undercutting it with like 300 watts it is going to sound fine.
It is nice to have some headroom though, that is a one loud cab and using an amp like the 2001 will have earthquake-like results
Boy, how times have changed...it used to be that 300w was considered an insane amount of volume. I still consider it an insane amount of volume. Now people talk about it like it's for sissies. Crazy.
Lol I didn't mean it that 300 watts is a lot. In fact that is how much I gig with(my Mesa Walkabout). I was just saying that anything above 300 with that 1080 watt cabinet would get a better sound out of it than a <300 watt head.
Bridge the amp. The headroom you'll achieve will make for a better more powerful sound. It WILL be loud. GK amps are more powerful IME than their power ratings. I've played SVT810s with a GK800 with better results than a bridged SVT4. One of the best sounds I've ever gotten was with a backline of GK2001RB through an SVT810, wicked punch!!! With the Mesa cab, it should be even better.
