Mesa 2x15 PowerHouse - 4 or 8 ohms - how do they do that?

  1. I'm looking at a Mesa 2x15 PowerHouse.
It says "8 or 4 ohms." How are they able to achieve 8 or 4 ohms?
...or do I have to specify which I want when I buy it?

  2. Different drivers. I assume the 4ohm has two 8ohm drivers and the 8ohm has two 16ohm drivers in parallel.

You will have to decide which you want.

    Exactly.
Its not like its switchable...they come in either of the two.

  4. Yep..someone started the rumor that Mesa cabs have "switchable" impedances. Definitely not true, though a dealer told me that over the phone once..pervasive rumor. The player control panel lets you vary the crossover to the tweeter (3, 4, 5K) and there's a tweeter "attenuator" (eg, volume), but you must choose when ordering..4 or 8.
