mesa boogie 400+ tube?'s

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by groovking, Oct 3, 2000.

  1. ive got a mesa boogie 400+ head which i dated to late 93 early 94. it runs 6L6STR427GC output tubes in it. i noticed from 95 and up the boogs run 5881 outputs. can i use either tube as long as a complete set is replaced. and if so which tubes, by type not brand, are the most recommended, or most sought after by bassists. if not interchangable i would still like to know you folks feelings on the most desirable> thanks in advance,.........jim

  2. No problem using either 6L6 GC or 6L6 5881's. I asked MB the same question when I got my amp (used). I have 5881's, and they said that it wouldnt be any problems if I wanted the 6L6GC, but I probably would prefer the sound of the 5881's. I dont know why they think so.. but I think I'll stick to 5881's.
