Ok so I recently purchased a used Mesa Prodigy from Guitar Center. I got it at a good price do to a shipping casualty. They had to go through the amp and refurbish it. Tbh I'm not sure if they did the repair through Mesa or not. I've had the amp for 35 days without any issues until it suddenly totally dropped out today while playing for about 20 minutes. I could hear it slightly and the volume knob had no effect whatsoever on it. I shut it down for a half hour and tried it again. Same thing. 20 minutes and it would drop out. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Up until the point of it shutting down it sounds great. No crackling. It's bright and punchy. No sound issues until it drops out.
I would be looking at the driver/PI tube. I have no schematics to know if there are any SS components in the signal chain. What do the bias lights do?
Thanks for the contact information Jim I will definitely call them. This is my first tube amp so I have a lot to learn about them. All of the lights seem to be exactly the same before and after the sound drops out.
yeah, call them on the 5th... while not under warranty, they'll likely help you troubleshoot.... likely one bad component that fails after heating up.
back of the amp on the side, there's LED's that turn dark (I believe) when the Bias is set properly for the power tubes. Download the owners manual and read about it... very important. http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/bassProdigy_140115.pdf
Although the amp was purchased used and damaged from GC, who is NOT a MESA dealer - the amp is still under the 5 year warranty (although damage is not covered under warranty). If it was damaged due to a shipping casualty,as you say - it would probably be best to have it checked out here. Give us a ring (if you haven't already) and we'll get you sorted out. Thanks!
