    Hi folks,

In the Metro line, Standard and Vintage series seem to be pretty similar, except about some kind of "cosmetics".

Please did anyone here A/B these models, and are there any tonal differences ? I have a big GAS for a Metro but can't decide between those models.

    Many thanks
    Jay

  2. I have played both and had several Vintage (both NYC and Metro) and I prefer the Vintage "vibe" unless it is an exotic finish and then I prefer the Standard. There is no real sound difference other than the differences from bass to bass. Some may argue about the addition of the pickguard but I find one is just as playable and sounds just as good as the other. I do agree that there are generally noticeable differences from bass to bass. However that is not what was asked....(before anybody jumps me for that!!)

    Hope that helps!

    Peace,

I have a Vintage 4 and a Standard 5 with diffrent wood combos but i cant see how the pick guard or control plate could account for any tonal diffrences.

    Many thanks Tommixx !

Yes, let's put the bass to bass differences aside, I know there are often many (even noticeable differences in weight from two quite identical basses with the same finish).

Well, now I just have to decide myself between an MV4 and an MS4... All I know is that I will get the VTC retrofit...

    Many thanks again,
    Jay

  6. Sorry Major, I should have been clear, some people swear that they slap better with a pickguard...I do not agree but I do not disagree with them... :D different strokes I guess...I did not mean to infer that there was any tonal difference as to me, clearly there is none that I can hear, sorry!!

    Peace,

  7. You are most welcome! I should have commented about the VTC, I think it is a MUST have item on ANY bass now that I have used it. You will definitely want it with the maple neck. The maple is very percussive and depending on string choice can be too bright for some (I love it with Sadowsky nickel strings!!) The other thing I will mention is that generally the Metro line is heavier than the NYC BUT if you ask the weight before you buy you can find some light ones out there (even UNDER 8 lbs!! ) the MV 5 that I have is a Transparent White that is flawless and weighs just a tad over 8lbs.

I looked around and called quite a few dealers out there. I finally got mine from John at Bass Emporium and Highly recommend them or the guys at Bass Central. Very good service before, during and after the sale. It goes without saying that dealing with Roger or Kevin directly at Sadowsky is an absolute pleasure and I would suggest calling them first just to see if they know what may be coming or in case they have something that isn't reflected on the site. I found one of mine this way!!

Good luck on the hunt...let us know how it turns out!

    Peace,

    T

    HI

Yea, shouldn't make a difference. Differences would be in wood for the body and fingerboard. Good luck with your search
