Michael Manring Newsletter for August 31, 2005

Discussion in 'Ask Steve Lawson & Michael Manring' started by Dave Grossman, Aug 31, 2005.

  1. Hey Michael. Hope you don't mind me reposting your newsletter here. I'm sure that everybody here would dig this info. Especially because of the wicked cool cover photo on the latest Bassics magazine. :D

    Hi everyone,

I feel very fortunate to announce that I'm featured on the cover of the current issue of Bassics magazine. You can have a look, order a copy or sign up for a subscription here: http://www.bassics.com/. The issue also has an article on my friend and fellow solo bassist Steve Lawson and comes with an enhanced CD with lots of cool goodies including my piece, "Helios." Many thanks to everyone at Bassics and especially the inestimable Robert Kaye for writing such a nice article. I hope you'll check it out!

Thanks so much for all the interest in the CDs I wrote about last month. My supply of the Carbonne/Dipiazza/Manring bass trio recording sold out very quickly, but it's currently available at the European Bass Day site (http://www.european-bassday.com/) and should be up on CD Baby any day now. The Sadhappy CD with Mike Keneally and Evan Schiller is also now available at CD Baby (http://cdbaby.com/cd/sadhappy2) as is my latest solo CD, Soliloquy (http://cdbaby.com/cd/manthing).

We've just finished up a fun set of gigs here in California with the Demania Trio (Alex DeGrassi, Chris Garcia and myself). Mark Whittington of the San Jose Mercury News was kind enough to stop by our Redwood City show and wrote this very nice review: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2005/08/demania_trio_da.html. We'll be doing some recording with this trio in a few weeks and we hope to have a CD out soon.

Below is a list of upcoming shows. Some of the details are a bit sketchy at the moment, but I'll fill in the info just as soon as it becomes available, so please check the concert calendar at www.manthing.com periodically for the latest news.

    Thanks to all,
    Michael
