what does it mean when your pick-ups go microphonic?
  2. It means they pick up sounds that are not string-related, like your hand banging against the bass or something. Like a microphone.

  3. It happens when the windings loosen over time. When pickups go badly microphonic, they can squeal like a stuck pig when you open the mids. The three solutions are: new pickups; wax potting (where you seal the windings in wax - takes knowhow); rewinding.
