That's even likely, over five years it has probably changed hands more than once. It will depend on the local laws what happens with the bass and whether the OP has any claim.

  7. Same thing happen to a mountain bike I owned. Saw it outside a repair shop. Numbers matched. I got it back--a lot worse for the wear, though.

Hope it's still in good condition. Often, thieves do not respect the merchandise they steal. Still, very fortunate you came across it. Call the police. If either you or they still have a record of the police report, your in luck. If not, you might be toast because anyone could walk into the pawn shop, see a bass they like, write down the serial number, walk out and call police saying its theirs.

I can't imagine how you won't get this back with your proof. If not, there's is something seriously wrong with the law in your town! GL!

If the insurance paid you for the bass then use that money and buy the bass from the pawn shop. Also tell the pawn shop what you are doing so they will never do business with the thief again.

Aren't pawn shops supposed to hold merchandise for 30 or 90 days while it gets checked against records of stolen items?

If the insurance company paid for the bass they are the rightful owners of the bass.

No insurance claim. This too has already been addressed repeatedly.

Anxiously awaiting an update from the OP!
