Mighty Mite Precision neck

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by The_Phoenician, Jul 6, 2013.

  1. I have an ESP LTD Vintage, and I'm thinking of replacing the neck with a Mighty Mite Precision neck; will it fit?

Since I don't have experience with that specific manufacturer, I would be guessing. But warmouth has info about Fender neck pocket online at http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/faq2.aspx
Measure your neck pocket and compare. Then measure the depth of your neck at the heel and compare. If its the same, you still may have to do some minor adjustment, but it should work.

Not properly, or without more hassle than it's worth.

The ESP is a 21 fret neck (not an extended fretboard). The Mighty Mite is a 20 fret.

If the scale length is the same (34"), which would apply if you used a warmouth 21 fret neck, then it won't matter. The 21st fret is overhung.

Measure as described here http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Building,_general/Assembly/i-4003/i-4003_3.html. The bridge to nut distance should be 35" for a 34" scale length bass. If its 34", then you should be fine.

The 21st fret on the ESP is not overhung. The Nut-to-Saddle length on a 34" Scale bass is 34". Minor allowances are made for intonation. If a Mighty Might 20-fret neck is mounted on a body made for a full-length (not overhung 21st fret) 21-fret neck, the Nut-to-Saddle length will be reduced to approximately 33 5/8". This would require the bridge be moved back 3/8", or proper intonation would be impossible.

Measurement on both my p bass and j bass is 35" from nut to bridge mounting screws (34" scale). My basses were built that way by Fender. The stew Mac guide is correct.

From photos I've seen, reference http://m.bonedo.de/artikel/einzelansicht/ltd-vintage-204-rosewood/2.html , the LTD has an overhung 21st fret. ESP's website lists specs for the vintage as 34" scale length. Please clarify.

    Phoenician,
Does your neck have a fretboard which overhangs the end of the neck?

I think that the distance for a 34" scale bass should NOT be 35", but I have never been great at math, so maybe I am wrong.

You have to read the guide for measuring (link). The 35" distance is from bridge screw center to nut. 34" scale just means that the string length from nut to saddle is 34" plus or minus. When setting the bridge its 35" plus or minus 1/16". I've personally set bridges on two basses and this works perfectly as per the stew mac guidance.

Bridge Mounting Screw hole positions vary with different brands of bridges. Scale Length is measured from crest of the nut slot, usually the fretboard-side face of the nut, to the crest of the string notch in the saddle.

Your lack of understanding the information you are citing is adding unnecessary confusion to a fairly simple problem.

This is not rocket science. See link http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Fretting/a-scalelength.html . I believe stew mac is correct. Or are you disputing this info? Personally I feel like I've added pertinent, correct info to this thread. Ive measured the distance on all 4 of my 34" scale length basses and they are all the same.

If you think I'm incorrect, then that's your opinion, right? I have used this method mounting bridges on several fender basses with success. That's all I need to know. What method have you used to mount a bridge?

My last post in this thread...cause I'm actually trying to help

Measured distance (from my 20 fret mighty mite jazz neck), from the nut edge on the fretboard side to farthest end of neck (center of the rounded edge) is 23-13/16". If the esp/ltd neck has the same dimension to the rounded edge which fits in the neck pocket, then the mighty mite neck should work length wise. To make sure the esp/ltd neck is 34" scale, measure from edge of nut to 12th fret: that would be half the scale length or 17". A check of the neck pocket dimensions compared with fender dimensions (see warmouth and stew mac links previously posted) should also be done to make sure it will fit.

    That is all...
