MIJ Neck on MIM Body

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Louden Lowe, Apr 5, 2009.

  1. Is a Fender MIJ Geddy or Jaguar neck a direct drop-in replacement on an MIM P-Bass body? The MIM is an '06.

  2. I just traded off my FrankenJazz that had an 80s CIJ Jazz neck that was on a 07 MIM body
...was fine...not sure about a Geddy however

I have a Squire II Neck on a MIM bass. I think the Tele basses are cut a little funny, otherwise just about everything P & Jazz of the same fret count seems to swap out pretty well!

  4. There might be some neck pocket tweaking. I've heard more than once that Geddy necks are a bit off spec in the heel from the standard Fender. That may have been resolved in the past few years though. Just be warned that they might not all be the same.

I can't tell you about those exact parts, but it will probably be similar to my experience. I had a MIM J body ('05 or '06) and put a CIJ '62RI J neck on it. It required a small amount of trimming of the neck pocket to make the neck fit properly. The radius on the heel of the neck was just slightly different than the body. Once I trimmed the pocket (very carefully), plugged and re-drilled the screw holes, was just fine.

You should be fine. Go with the Geddy!
