Anybody out there enjoy playing this game? My brother and I spent hours and hours playing it on rainy days growing up.

I asked for it as a Christmas present last year, and nobody on my in-law side of the family, whom I spent the day with, knew what it was or took an interest in learning how to play. :(

Great, underrated game! I started playing it like 25 years ago with my sister then forgot about it for a long time. A few years back I bought it again new but I didn't like the look of the newer cards so I bought an older version off eBay that had the look I remember.

I love this game. My son and I play almost every weekend.

I don't like the new cards, either. My son loves them because they have Enzo Ferraris on them. I'd love to have the old 60's style version again.

  6. I love it, played it 30 years ago & particularly like how it helped me sneak some basic addition in on my son. :ninja: BTW, you can find 'reissue' old sets as well as genuine old ones on the bay. I wish I knew where ours went to...

You bring up a good point. My son's addition skills improved once I started holding him accountable for keeping his mileage straight and scoring his own hands. He was intimidated by large numbers, and this game helped him get over that. :hyper:

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for reissue sets. Might try to get a real 60's or 70s version, just to have it. I used to really like the puke green plastic card tray my early 70s version had when I was a kid.

I haven't thought of that game in probably 10 years. Back when we were in high school I used to periodically study for tests at my friend house. Either that or UNO were our study break games.

    Vehicule Prioritaire baby!

Sweet, I knew that some bass players would be into Milles Bornes!

The game I requested for last year's Christmas exchange was a new old stock Parker Brothers version with the green card tray and old school graphics. My brother-in-law didn't understand why I wanted a version that was thirty years old when a brand new edition was available. The saddest thing is nearly a year later, I still haven't found anybody willing to learn the game.

  10. Wow, plate o' shrimp! I was just reminiscing with my sister about this the other day and how our family used to play this 40 years ago when I was 5 and we took boat trips to Catalina. Mentioned it to my wife, and she'd never heard of it.

I've come very close to picking up a vintage edition on eBay.

    "Plate o' shrimp"?

In any case, I used to play that with my sister all the time when we were kids. I would stack the deck something fierce. "Oh, wow, look at that - all four immunity cards in my first four draws! Incredible!"

For those who might not know what I and others are talking about with the older version.

Admittedly there is a certain campy/cheesy-ness to the old style; that's exactly why I love it so. I could see why kids would like the newer style tho.

    Damn kids...

It's hard to tell from that picture Marcus, but are the new cards even in French?

One of my favorite memories of that game was annoying my friend every time I played a roll card by exclaiming (in my best Clifton Chenier) "Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler!"

Actually, I don't think so. That's an even newer look than the set I bought a few years ago, so I'm not sure. I'll take my campy cards with the puke green tray any day.

  16. Hey sparktone, I lived on Catalina for a couple of months in my wild youth- long, largely unrelated story.
I think the newer sets are also in French, but we've misplaced ours. :spit:
One other benefit: teaching a kid how to handle losing- an enormous & important lesson in my house.

I'd forgotten the game...when I saw this thread it immediately brought back a lot of good memories (I used to play it a lot w/ my oldest brother who raised me after my mom passed away). Will have to take a look and see if I can't find one on the bay myself.

I played it a lot as a kid, nowadays I just find it boring.
I took a look at the newer version. It sucks badly.
As others pointed, the charm comes from the vintage looks.

I used to enjoy playing it. I haven't played it in years, though.
