Just picked up a great 2013 Fender mim Standard J bass. Was being sold on consignment, at a local guitar shop. Absolute mint condition, with the plastic still on the pickguard.

    Anyway, a minor detail...but nonetheless. .
The round string tree on this bass is chromed plastic. I thought that these were always metal on Fender standards. I see the plastic ones on Squiers. My '99 mim Jazz has a metal one, as do all the new ones hanging in GC.
Like I said, not anything earth shaking, but just wondering if that piece is plastic on anyone else's mim bass.

If all the newer ones at GC have metal, then the plastic string tree should be a major red flag that you might be holding a fake especially if it looks just like all the other ones.

If it was a different shape, then you could chalk that up to a simple mod by the previous owner.

At least that is how I would perceive it if it was my money being spent.
  4. Take it back to the store and have them check it. It should have the metal one.

I believe the older MIMs had like the brushed nickel looking string trees. The newer MIMs have a more chrome looking one but it should still be metal.
