I saw a bass today that was alleged to be a MIM Fender Jazz however the serial number was on the back of the headstock.

Anyone know when Fender put the serial number back there?

I could not get close enough to it to see the actual numbers otherwise I'd just run the serial number through one of the online resources.

My '98 MIM doesn't have a serial on the back.
  3. MIM Jazz Deluxe 5 has the serial number on the back of the headstock.. According to Fender.com, my bass is 1997-1998

This one was a 4 stringer, sunburst, tort pickguard, black pickups and rosewood fingerboard with dot markers. Even from 3 feet away it looked nicer than other MIM's I have seen.

I have just learned that this is a 1960's MIM reissue.

Now the real question, what is a fair price?

My MIM 60's classic Jazz does indeed have a SN. They're great basses for the $ BTW.

I remember them doing that...and sometimes they're on the back heel end of the neck too. IIRC it was early 90's.

So your serial number is on the back side of the headstock?

So how much are these going for?

Now I got a "sweetheart" deal on my MIM Classic 60's Jazz, but I paid $508 w/o the gig bag.

    Very good value.
