Mini Qtron volume control

Hi guys,
I'm a bit of an effects virgin so this is probably a really stupid question..but hey, only one way to learn..

I recently purchased the eh mini qtron (for de fonk) and I like it (does xactly what it says on the tin) however I find when I engage the unit the volune goes through the roof, now in the interests of saving my poor speakers, is there any way to control the volume of the pedal??, I've tried putting it in a chain with a compressor after it and all that does is kill the filter effect.

I was afraid of that, I dont think I'll bother with a volume pedal (no point in forking out cash for something I'll barely use)instead I'll probably get an electronics type mate to rig some kind of limiter to it.
