Hello UBers im an electric guy with a quick question.

A co-worker has a cello and asked if i wanted it. I mentioned that I play bass, and he offered. I have no specifics, but can look into it (its free so why bother if i like it, right?)

the question is can i treat it like a mini upright? (isn't that what it is) I know, totally different monster, but can it do it? what's the scale difference?

The strings are different. The scale is different. The tuning is (i believe) in 5ths. I believe the lowest string is tuned to A.

That being said i think you will need a set of strings at the correct scale length that can be tuned E A D G and hence possibly a setup as well.

I'm guessing at most of this but also id be concerned whether the cello tailpiece could handle the ball ends of the shorter scale DB strings.
