    Okay, I have been trying to play this song by the police. First I did it by ear and kind of fleshed out the sound. I then pulled up some tablature on it, but it just doesn't look right.

    I have everything figured out, except the primary baseline in the verse. The song appears to be played entirely on the E and A strings.

    The only thing I cannot figure out: in the verse/bass line, I hear at least four or five notes, while the tab shows only three. Also, the notes appear to progress down the string away from the frets, not towards them as the tabs show. The tab is below.

    On the verse, I am hearing (on the E string), what I think is an A, a G and then open E, and on repeat it goes up to a B. There appears to be a sharp or flat just before the verse goes in to the chorus.

    Any help would be appreciated. The tab I found is below:

    No one?

    I spoke with my teacher and he felt like the first three notes of the song are on the E string, going from G, to F#, then to F. However, it still doesn't sound "right".

  3. Great bass line. I think I may have figured out some of it in the past, not that that helps you now.

    It could be one of the songs that he plays on a fretless, and thus some of the pitches might be "between the frets" a bit. They do show a bend in the tab..

    Just thinking over the line in my head though, I don't think that tab is right. The verse repeats a 2 bar phrase, and the bass is not the same in the second phrase.

    Now I'm gonna have to try and figure it out again.
