MM pickup switch

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Davidoc, Mar 30, 2002.

  1. I've been told that the middle position on the selector switch on MMs sets the pickup to single coil mode, but when I put it in this mode, both coils make a lound noise when i tap them with a fork (or other metal thingy) I don't really notice a difference in sound. Is it defective?

Shouldn't only 1 coil (plus the phantomy coil) respond?

I believe that you're right. What does it do on the other settings? I've never had a Stingray, but if it's in single-coil mode you won't hear the thump/clack (or it'll be much quieter) from the "off" coil when tapped.
  3. thanks for the information!

One coil sounds very soft when in single coil mode, I just wasn't sure if it was supposed to make any noise. Now I can notice a difference in sound as well!

I don't know if Stingray 4's have the switch, couldn't find it on the EB site...

    But, here's the set-up for a SR 5...

    I'm sure it's somewhat the same for a 4 with a switch.

    Hope that helps you out.
